Over the past few weeks Ian Lavery and I have been working with the talented dancer Diana Brownie to create two interactive compositions that Diana can realize through dance. We are using Kinect controllers with Synapse and MaxMsp in order to map Diana’s limbs to different musical parameters. One challenge is to make these pieces musically meaningful; another is to make them kinesthetically meaningful. It is important to work within the limitations of our software so as to create salient and practical solutions.
