Sonic UBC Laptop Sounds and Sensors (SUBCLASS) 2023/2024

SUBCLASS switches over again to being the Interactive Music and Performing Arts Research Training Program (IMPART). Just like in 2020, SUBCLASS will have a February/March residency at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, collaborating with students of Prof. Christine Muyco. This trip made possible by subsidies provided by UBC Arts Research Abroad and UBC GoGlobal.

This year SUBCLASS once again becomes the Interactive Music and Performing Arts Research Training Program (IMPART), with a February trip to the University of the Philippines-Diliman to collaborate with students of Prof. Christine Muyco, support by UBC Arts Research Abroad and UBC GoGlobal.

The 2015/16 version of SUBCLASS  has expanded again this year to be the Interactive Music and Performing Arts Research Training Program (IMPART). We have two dancers, cello, French horn/programmer, trombone, piano/programmer, and vocalist/composer, five composer/programmers, and five capstone-project Engineering students and an Engineering post-doc. Once again, through the Faculty of Arts, Go Global, and UBC Engineering, IMPART will be travelling internationally, this time to  Huddersfield, England to collaborate on research and performance with students at the University of Huddersfield and to perform on the Huddersfield Electric Spring Festival.

SUBCLASS (the UBC laptop orchestra) has expanded this year, adding acoustic performance, dance, and engineers to its standard complement of composer-programmers. Additionally, through the Faculty of Arts, Go Global, and UBC Engineering, SUBCLASS will be travelling to Mons, Belgium to carry out research and performance for two weeks at the Numediart Lab at the University of Mons.
